Academic Debate from TÜRÖMER
Students with a Command of Turkish Took the Stage:
Academic Debate from Istanbul 29 Mayıs TÜRÖMER

TÜRÖMER, operating under Istanbul 29 Mayıs University, hosted a high-quality academic event that positioned Turkish not merely as a language of instruction but as a tool for thinking and debate.

On 29 December 2025, a debate event titled “Does Social Media Strengthen Communication or Weaken It?” was organized in cooperation with Fatih Sultan Mehmet Foundation University Turkish and Foreign Languages Teaching, Application and Research Center (TÜMER). The event brought students’ Turkish oral expression and critical thinking skills to the stage.

Conducted under the guidance of a moderator and within a structured program, the debate featured students learning Turkish from both universities, who defended their views in Turkish across designated rounds. The event provided students with the opportunity to practically demonstrate their abilities in producing academic arguments, responding to opposing views, and speaking in public.

Following the evaluation process at the end of the program, the students who ranked were awarded first-place and achievement plaques. The students who stood out with their performances drew attention with their ability to use Turkish effectively as a language of academic debate. In addition, administrators from both institutions exchanged mutual thanks and emphasized the importance of inter-university academic cooperation.

Istanbul 29 Mayıs TÜRÖMER continues to contribute to the language development of international students through student-centered, practice-based activities that carry Turkish teaching beyond the classroom and support academic production, and it continues to organize these activities in cooperation with partner institutions.
